In this paper the causal propositions are analyzed as they are used in Pliny the Younger 'Letters', where phrasal propositions express the reason or the causal motive of the action enunciated in the principal clause. The conjunctions of principal frequency are established, the aim being to ascertain whether the use is a regular or diversified one. In this way, an atempt is made to verify the tendencies of the classic 1st c. prose concerning the expression of subordinate causality. |

The assessment of Alcibiades conveyed by the fragment 288 from Theopompus' 'Hellenica' ('FGrHist' 115) remains not adequately treated in modern historiographical research. This paper tries to put forward an interpretation of Theopompus' characterization of Alcibiades based on two points that are closely interrelated: 'polytropía' and exile. Greek views on both topics are adduced in order to elicit Theopompus' originality in his presentation on Alcibiades and to reject from it too eschematic moralizing criteria. |

Aproximación histórica a la figura del sofista
Sánchez, Mª Asunción
'Sophistés' was any man possissing masterful habilities in early V Century; so the epic poets and the ancient Ionian philosophers were thus 'sophistaí'. This paper offers an explanation of the different uses of the word 'sophistés' during this Century, when a new pedagogical and philosophical doctrine appears, and the meaning of this word changes (mainly Plato, Aristoteles and Isocrates' works). |
