Rigas Velestinlís: poesía y traducción

García Gálvez, Isabel

The author considers Rigas Velestinlis (1757-1798) one of the creator of the neohellenic literature, after analysing his whole work (traslations and original work) taking into account essential keys such as the literary style of the new Greek nation and the existence of a local literature. This analysis is centred on Rigas’ poetic production: his translations, his versions and the originality of his love songs which are enclosed in the Greek versios of Rétif de la Bretonnes tales, Σχολείο τῶν ντελικάτων ἐραστῶν (Vienna, 1790) and in relation to Ἔρωτος ἀποτελέσματα (Vienna, 1792).

La liberación de Dioniso y la destrucción del palacio de Penteo en Las Bacantes de Eurípides (Bacch. 576-637)

González Merino, Juan Ignacio

In this work, we try to demonstrate how the Foreigner / Dionysius’ liberation and the destruction of the palace in Bacchantes were described by Εuripides with such a dose of ambiguity that they can be interpreted in two completely different ways: in one hand, the tautological one, —both events have been the godts miracles— which might have been the interpretation of the audience in the ancient times and it is also the reading of the modern critics; on the other hand, the rational one, that is, what has happened, has only been a series of tricks of the Foreigner. By proposing this second interpretation we are based both on the circumstances which surround the Foreigner’s imprisonment (darkness in the stables, overexcitement, nearly madness, of Penteo) and on the absolute respect to the manuscripts, according lo which, for instance, in v. 630, the Foreigner/Dionysius does not make a «ghost» (φάσμ’) as it appears in Jacobs’ corrected version, followed by most editors) but a «light» (φῶς, as we can read in the manuscripts L and P).

Los procedimientos lexicales para la expresión del género en latín

González Luis, Francisco

The aim of this paper is to summarize the views of differents scholars on heteronymy and on the lexemes of complementation or supporting lexemes, that is, the lexical devices used for expressing gender in Latin. Heteronymy is studied here through distinguishing the two lexical series in which it appears: kinship names and domestic animal names. In reviewing them one reaches the conclusion that Latin has inherited not only the majority of Indoeuropean heteronymic couples, but has also created new ones in the course of its evolution. With respect to the complementation terms, mas / femina, the study offers the lexical groups in which such supporting lexemes are used, viz. a) for distinguishing sex in names of common gender (communia nomina) or epicene (epicoena nomina ) and in names of animals used as victims of ritual sacrifices; b) for other technical classifications; and c) for indicating the terminology of grammatical gender in early grammarians.

In order to carry out this study, we have resorted to the Celtic tradition as well as to the sources supplied by two classical historians, Caesar, Tacitus and the Historia Augusta. The aim of this article is to identify and specifically locate a dozen or so of these place names, amongst which we find «Orzelione» and «Sª Mª de Octaris», places about which there has been special discussion. The author used his own methods in conducting this research, which combined the extrinsic comparison of the place names together with the intrinsic study of the related documents.

Horacio en las ‘Epístolas en verso’ de Tomás de Iriarte

Salas Salgado, Francisco

Horace was particularly relevant in the 18th century, specially in relation to literary precepts. Serrano-Niza, Dolores

The following pages are the result of our continuous reflections about the medieval texts in Arabic and the analises that are frequently subjected to. Althoug no pretension of originality furthers our approach, we intend to look at these already studied pieces from a different perspective and to establish a «new order». Consequently, we have chosen as the object of the present research Al-Ŷaḥiẓ’ s Kitāb al-Ḥayawān (Book of the Animals), as text every scholar is well acquainted with. We propose to analyze the generic and contextual foundations of this work as the mainstays supporting the erection of the book to the category of an Islamic Arabic Encyclopedia.
