Sobre la raigambre griega del sistema democrático

Gil Fernández, Luis

A modification to Holden's triangle simile should be established in order to visualize in a proper way the similarities and differences between Athenian and modern democracies. Demokratia can be symbolized as a circle inscribed inside of an isosceles triangle whose basis is isogonia, his sides eleutlzeria and isonomia. Therefore word sequences of a well known French slogan for an Athenian should be: isogonia ('fraternité'), eleutheria ('liberté'), isonomia ('égalité').

The author has revised the most significatives passages of Plutarch's work on wealth (excepting Tu. san. Praec. )and has looked for their origins and fonts. It seems possible to conclude that Plutarch's inspiration is based in the most on Platon and the CH.

El dos, el tres y el círculo. La forma y el contenido. La obra y la naturaleza

Esteban Santos, Alicia

Through the analysis of some Greek works from the different literary genres, we observe tendency towards the «architectural» and «geometric» structure of literary work, and, on the other hand, towards the linking of form to meaning. With regard to the form they show preference to tripartite and round structure (Ringkomposition ), with the essential in the central part. And in relation to the content particular attention is paid to concepts like time, space, movement, reality, god, man, death, love; concepts which usually appear interrelated and establishing oppositions.

The authors study passages in the political speeches of the Demosthenic corpus in wich the orator uses sports vocabulary in metaphorical sense. It is analysed the meaning of each word or expression in their respective contexts, their function in the speech, and the application to every character or group of characters of the sports metaphors or comparisons wich are used by Demosthenes or his imitators. Also are propounded textual corrections to some passages, and it is added at the end a glossary of the studied words.

This paper offers a study of some feminine deities in early Greck epic poetsy -like Calypso, Circe, Tethys, Eos etc.- who live isolated, away from the divine and human world. They are at the same time positive and negative, «good» and «bad» and have some connection with some opposites: water and earth -especially the fertile earth-, the upperworld and the underworld.

Herrera Montero, Rafael

We study the discused influence of Pindar's Odes on tlie Spanish Renaissance Poetry, paying special atention to the role of the poetic translations by Fray Luis and Argensola, and those fragmentaries by the humanists Pedro de Valencia and Pablo de Céspedes, with some critical notes on their texts, and a study of their manners as translators. After that, we discuse the alleged influence of Pindar in Fernando de Herrera's and Quevedo's works.

González Terriza, Alejandro A.

A careful reading of the passage from Ar. Ec. 877- 1111 reveals a bisemical structure. Eros and thanatos are skilfully superposed the scene: Hags' proposal of love to a young boy is seen by their victim as a gruesome attempt to lure him to Death. The character of the three Hags is probably based on that of Empousa, ogress and φάσμα sent by Hecate, widely known and used in Old Attic Comedy, and specially by Ar., who pictures her in at least two other passages (Ra. 288 ss, fr. 515 K-A) appart from this. In the context of the whole work, this μορμολυκεῖα scene may be read as an exaggeration of male fears to active sexual role by women, a trait which is most underlined in the Greek imagination of ogresses such as Lamia, Gello and Empousa.
