Macrohistoria, Microhistoria o Historia
Artículo alojado en InterClassica (139,03 kB)

Sanmartín Ascaso, Joaquín

Knowledge of the past is a mental processing of data, and as such it is not different from knowledge of «normal» things. Things (objects) and words are interconnected by concepts (notions); in the historical knowledge things (events) and words (texts) are interconnected by the sense (meaning) in which the knowing subject digest (ananges) the past. This arrangement is a product of the historical competence of the subject, and is here called History. In this paper History is asserted to be a strictly Linguistic discipline.

Lengua e Historia en Platón: oralidad y escritura, mythologein y mythologia en el Timeo y en el Critias
Artículo alojado en InterClassica (357,34 kB)

Amorós Juan, Pedro

This study explains the search for a new model which would define the relations between history and tradition. In this sense, the Platonical narrations Timeo and Critias enclose deep reflections on the relations between myth, memory and history in the Greek world. Contrary to the general idea held by the historians who consider the narration as a mythos, Platon presents it as a logos. From the fifth century on the Greek illustrated public distinguish between the various types of narrations: verifiable histories of the past, stories of archeological character or credibile logoi, and model mythoi. The Timeo and Critias belong to the second genre, the logographic narration in which the logos is expressed as the traditional language. At the same time, Plato takes into consideration and establishes the differences between mythologein, the oral transmission of the myths, and mythologia, the reflection and investigation of the ancient traditions related to the scripture and with the narrations.

Artículo alojado en InterClassica (138,13 kB)

Beltrán Corbalán, Domingo

The term tempus is frequently employed by Orosius. In his Historiae, he deals with the comparison between happiness in pagan times and in Christian ones (praeteria tempora, christiana tempora). In the same way, he understands the history of Rome from the «four universal monarchies» scheme inherited from Daniel; or from a biological point of view, according to which, his age corresponds to an old world, to a Roma senescens. In his Liber apologeticus, Orosius pays attention to the relationship between time and God, who he qualifies as autor temporum, and he insists on the divine order of times.

El reino visigodo en la concepción de Julián de Toledo
Artículo alojado en InterClassica (766,16 kB)

García Herrero, Gregorio

The analysis of the conceptual categories manifested in the works of Julian of Toledo in regards to the political realities, such as the kingdom and its habitans, shows that these are determined by the eschatological feelings of the author and his view of History. While the regnum appears as a patrimonial reality bestowed on the monarch by means of the Real Unction ceremony, other terms, such as barbarus or gothus, are now mere anachronisms. The gens is used to differentiate the hispanogothic peoples from their neighbors. However, from our point of view, it is more relevant to pay attention to the response found in the works of Julian. This response defines the habitants of the Kingdom as populus christianus, which, in the general concept of History, substituted the populus iudaicus, with all the known important political consequences that brought about.
